Privacy policy

Sunny Lantern is for shared stories and riddles with a grown-up. It uses AI, which can make mistakes. A parent or guardian manages the account and listener settings.

Information we use

We use your account name and email, country, consent records, listener age and avatar, preferences, created stories, favorites, and session timing to provide the app. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider. No child name, photo, exact birth date, school, or precise location is needed. Please keep private details out of story ideas and spoken questions.

Voice and AI

Live conversation sends microphone audio to OpenAI so the narrator can respond. When you record an individual question, a temporary audio file is created on your device and deleted after use. We do not store raw voice recordings or conversation transcripts in our application database. Turning off the microphone stops new voice input. Prepared samples are listening-only and do not use the microphone. Child voice use requires verified parent consent and approved provider data controls.

Service providers

Supabase provides account authentication, database storage, and stored sample audio. Resend delivers account verification and password recovery emails. OpenAI processes story requests and voice conversations. Hetzner hosts our backend. These services receive information needed to perform their roles. Our use of providers can involve processing outside your country.

Saved content and retention

Created stories remain in your library until you delete them, their listener profile, or your account. Favorites remain until removed. Temporary collection stories expire after 24 hours unless favorited or still playing. Safety reports are removed after 30 days. Account, consent, and session records support access, security, and usage limits. Deleting app data does not mean that all provider logs or backups are erased immediately; provider retention applies separately.

Your choices

In Privacy & your data, you can export your app data, delete listeners and their stories, withdraw consent, or delete your account. Withdrawing consent stops sessions and removes listener profiles and their stories. Store subscriptions must also be cancelled through the relevant app store. You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion, or to raise a privacy concern. Rights and complaint routes depend on your location.

Safety and security

Parent controls protect account settings. We use encrypted connections and restrict access to account data. Operational error logs help diagnose failures without recording speech text. Reports are not an emergency service. Stay nearby during children’s sessions and use Stop whenever needed.
